Band of the Day – Free Energy
With chunky Stones’ riffs, Van Halan guitar lines, a love of Tom Petty, Marc Bolan and even Thin Lizzy! Philadelphians Free Energy certainly know their music and with Killer tracks like Free Energy and Dream City you can totally see why James Murphy has signed them to DFA as his first big guitar band. They have huge ambition and frontman Paul Sprangers has already decided that the early recordings are “too Indie” and they want to release “big pop music like the Boss himself”
With Mr Murphy also on board as producer Free Energy are an exciting prospect for bringing back good old fashioned rock and roll. There were a few bands last year that tried what Free Energy are doing but unfortunately got it wrong by trying too hard to keep their cool and forgetting that with this type of Rock n Roll people just wanna hear the music.
