Day Two.
Another hectic day… I don’t think this place will slow down throughout SXSW so I have resigned myself to just a couple of hours sleep a night but it’s all worth it as Day 2 was another great day of music that started with DB’s very own Rumspringa and finished with a deafening set from the legendry Dinosaur Jnr… How can it get better than this?
Rumspringa played a great set and Joey and Itaru made sure that they won the crowd over with their self styled Jungle Blues, I’m so glad that we are working with these guys as they are doing something different to the type of sounds which are going on at the moment.
Then it was Loch Lamond… a band that a lot of people are talking about, unfortunately I was a little underwhelmed by the show but they sound great on Myspace so I will check them out again before SXSW finishes.
Adam Freeland next … a great DJ and I love his Back to Mine comps, but as a band it just didn’t work and I had to leave after a couple of songs… following this I saw a succession of pretty awful bands that somehow managed to blend into one long very bad song.
I needed to pick myself up from this so headed of to see DB faves, Cage the Elephant, and man did they storm it… They were hanging from the rafters and played one of the best gigs of SXSW so far. They also announced the DB show onstage so looks like it’s gonna be a busy one.
Could the night get any better? It certainly could and did… Jumped in a rickshaw to Mohawks for the rumored appearance of Dinosaur Jnr, I was expecting huge que and was a little worried when it was pretty quiet outside and in… but turns out this must have been one of the best kept secrets of SXSW because they did turn up and played an amazing set finishing with an absolutely storming version of Freakscene.
Oh.. Forgot to mention that I bumped into the Anvil guys randomly in the street, so grabbed a couple of beers with them and caught up…they say Hi by the way.

Day One.
What a hectic day… Spent the day programing for the DB show and making sure that we have some of the best bands of the Festival playing our stage… DB is going to be the place to be for SXSW 2009.
The first band I checked out was the fantastic Local Natives, one of this years Buzz bands and I totally see why, they played most of their self recorded album and finished the set with the storming track ‘Sun Hands’. You have to check this band… the album is killer and they will definitely be going on to bigger things. I made sure that I booked them on the spot for the DB show on Sat so if you are lucky enough too be at SXSW, head on down to Wave Bar for 5.15pm.
Then it was off to Radio Room to check out StarFucker, man did they blow me away… One of the best frontmen I have seen in a long time, I am putting them on as special guests this Sat so watch this space for a review. Check them on myspace and again head down to Wave Bar if you are around, Imagine if ELO were asked to ajust their sound for a set at the Hacienda and you are halfway to getting the Starfucker sound.
Sleepy Sun were next and if you read the DB blog you will know that I have been a huge fan of this band for a while now… they have the 60′s stoner rock sound nailed and the music managed to pull me in from the first track, by the end of the gig I felt like I was in 60′s San Fran and not sunny Texas. They have two more SX shows and it looks like I have managed to book a London DB show for May.
I finished the night by checking out our friends at DB’s… Skibunny and what a perfect way to end the evening, as they whipped the crowd into a frenzy with their reverb infused beats.
More tomorrow.
