When the band formed in 2006, the three members of CRYSTAL ANTLERS were working as chimney sweeps in Long Beach, CA. They quickly turned getting dirty by day into getting dirty by night and began gigging their striking blend of psych-garage across southern California. After recording their new EP with the Mars Volta’s Ikey Owens, they sent the legendry US indie label, Touch and Go (!!!, TV on the Radio, Calexico) a copy who were blown away by the swirling guitars, dramatic organ clamour, and relentless blend of cinematic psych to noisy soul punk. They’re in the UK for a very short European tour so make sure you come to Dirty Boots. This band really is special. “If you hear anything more exciting this year, you’re lying.” NME
Main support comes from the mega exciting new instrumental noisenik outfit THREE TRAPPED TIGERS. They marry the precision of electronica, the raw intensity of rock music and the schizophrenic spontaneity of their electro-improv past. Not easily classifiable, but we reckon if you have even a passing interest in Aphex Twin, Lightening Bolt and Squarepusher you’ll find plenty to chew on here. The music veers wildly from noisy guitars to contemplative synths, frantic beats to ambient noise. NME even tipped their hat to them by calling them “the new Battles”.
It’s not often you put ‘Scotland’ and ‘hip hop’ together in the same sentence especially not the old school electro type but YOUNG FATHERS are a breath of fresh air. Fun, funky and with bags of hooks and horns, these jocks are ripping up a party wherever they go. They have already had track of the week in the NME for “STRAIGHT BACK ON IT” and we think they are going to absolutely smash it at the Lanes on the 5th. We are really pleased they can make it… They are on second at Dirty Boots so don’t be late!

THE SHEBEATS are first on, and a band particularly close to our Dirty hearts. Not only are they fantastic and gorgeous but they are a band you’re all going to be hearing much more about; so much so, that even Mr Ben Folds (ex-Ben Folds Five) was raving about them at his recent January 2009 gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire and had Holly, the lead singer, fill in for Regina Spektor! They make pop treats doused in 80’s girl group indie rock. If you think of The Bangles or The Go-Go’s you’re not too far off.
